Studio Policies
Please familiarize yourself with these policies. It is essential that both parties understand the guidelines.
Payment
Students and Parents are expected to commit to an entire session. The summer Session lasts from June- August, Fall is from September through December, and Spring is from January through May.
Lessons are $30/half hour.
Lessons should be paid for in advance monthly, due at the first lesson of the month.
Students are required to enroll in group classes. In Houston, there are several options for this.
At lessons I'll present the options available
Cancellations
The cancellation policy is based a few premises:
1. Playing the violin or viola is hard. Keeping a consistent weekly schedule helps to make it easier
2. Respect for my time ensures that I can continue to be focused and excited to teach.
I like to be flexible; but please understand these baseline rules:
A total of 3 outright cancellations are allowed. I must be given at least 24 hours notice for these. Please let me know of any cancellations as soon as you are aware.
All other lessons should be rescheduled.
Lessons that are cancelled less than 24 hours in advance are rescheduled at my discretion. I want to see everyone regularly, but sometimes I am unable to reschedule on short notice. If a lesson is cancelled less than 24 hours in advance and I am unable to reschedule it, it still needs to be paid for.
Please use cancellations judiciously and in a way that shows respect for my time.
If I need to reschedule lessons I will let you know at the earliest possible opportunity.
Tardiness
I do my best to start and end lessons at their appointed times. Latecomers should not expect extra time. I understand that occasionally, traffic and external events make promptness impossible; however regular tardiness not only wastes money but sets an example for students that it is acceptable.
Consider this: if a student is only 5 minutes late to a thirty minute lesson, within 6 lessons they will have lost out on thirty minutes- a whole lesson that was paid for but never used!
Private Lessons
Private lessons will be held weekly. It is vital that we keep as consistent a schedule as possible; this is why I am so adamant about cancellations.
Group Classes
Group classes are an essential part of a Suzuki education; they should NOT be thought of as optional. Students are required to enroll in group classes.
Instruments
Instrument rental is the responsibility of the parent. Please do not order or buy one until your child has been measured! Incorrect sizing can make improvement elusive. There are many inexpensive violins and violas available, however, the majority of these are poorly constructed and should not be considered suitable.
Correspondence
I prefer to correspond through email and to have everything in writing. Please send email to: info@katiecarrington.com and allow 2 business days for a response. I can also be reached via phone or text at 630-235-9077. This is my personal phone; please do not contact me before 9:30am or after 9:30pm.
